Dog Friendly Spreyton Cider Co.

It can be hard to find a place that truly welcomes a dog let alone more than 2 at its premises, but Spreyton Cider Co absolutely love you to visit with your dog. We decided to test this with five, yes you read that right, five fluffy dogs that are not exactly small, and we loved our visit! I’m definitely going back again.

Spreyton Cider Co.

Spreyton Cider Co is a family-run business of fruit growers going back over four generations on the North West Coast of Tasmania from the mid-late 1800’s, and growing apples from 1908. The apple orchards are a symbol of Tasmania’s old nickname of being known as the ‘apple isle’. I have memories of drinking the purely Tasmanian fresh apple juices when the orchards were run by Spreyton Fresh in 1998 before the farm diversified into cider making in 2011. In 2012 Spreyton Cider Co emerged onto the cider scene. From the early days of experimenting with cider production, Spreyton Cider Co. are now medal winners with their traditional and contemporary flavoured ciders, taking out Gold, Silver and Bronze in 2021 at the Australian Cider Awards and an International Silver award in 2023 at the Japan Cider Cup.

Dog Friendly Cider Venue

After a morning running around off lead at Pig Island adjacent to Bells Parade in Latrobe with 5 floofy dogs we headed to Spreyton Cider Co. for lunch. When my friend booked a table she did mention we would be coming with more than two dogs, five of them to be transparent my friend said,  in case the cider company didn’t want that many dogs visiting in one hit, but Christina was surprised with a very positive ‘oh we can’t wait to meet them!’ This seemed to be souding positive for a dog friendly cider adventure.

We had a very nice table reserved for us with a large umbrella (appreciated on the sunny hot day) out on the lawn area with the orchard of heavily laden apple trees spreading out behind us. Our particular table was on some pretty rocky decorative stones but, with two dogs struggling with arthritis it wasn’t going to work. I did a quick zip inside to ask if we could pop up on the covered deck instead and was met with a ‘Yes, I can’t see it being a problem’ by the lovely girl behind the bar, she did double check with her manager.  Five well behaved dogs and two humans decamped to the covered deck. Not long afterwards we had Mark Gluyas the Cellar Door & Venue Manager eagerly popping out to meet all the dogs and get to know them. He went away with a big smile on his face. A little dog therapy is food for the soul in a stressful environment.

Our meals were served very promptly and were delicious, I had squid, cooked beautifully, even George approved of the squid I gave him! Along with my meal I had a delicious cold apple cider which was much appreciated on the hot day. I could’ve had more but as I had a way to drive home afterwards I thought one alcoholic beverage was enough. I didn’t feel the police would approve of George sitting behind the wheel driving me home!

Dog Friendly Walk around Spreyton Cider Co.

What really made this place a great stop for us and the dogs was the dog friendly information trail leading through the regeneratively farmed orchard and around the rustic themed Wedding Venue. The trail is gravel paved, easy to walk and won’t take longer than twenty minutes without side trips. We could walk up the lines of apple trees extending the walk if we wanted but on this day we stuck to the path. It is an on lead walk with plenty of opportunity for some great photos.

We went when the apples were being harvested so it was rather busy with little blue tractors zipping about carting large crates of apples into the sheds for cider making.
